Press Release  (3206 character)

This year’s traditional Christmas donation from ATP architects engineers is going to ÜLENKINDER in Hamburg. The new, heavily-in-demand transitional facility for families with children who are seriously ill or require palliative care, which is the only one of its kind in Northern Germany, is growing dynamically and relies upon external support.

Every Christmas, ATP supports a social (construction) project located close to one of its eleven European design offices. Because local know-how and specialist expertise ensure that help is properly targeted. This year, at the suggestion of the architect Albert Achammer, Managing Director of ATP Hamburg, ATP is supporting ÜLENKINDER, a care facility for families with children who are seriously ill or require palliative care.
I was really moved by the dedication shown by ÜLENKINDER to seriously ill children. The fact that families who have been dealt such a blow are not left to cope alone and continue to be helped after leaving hospital is something that we support with complete conviction,” says Albert Achammer, who was convinced by the valuable work of ÜLENKINDER during a visit to Orchideenstieg, where he presented a check for 20,000 euros to the heads of the facility.

The two Managing Directors of ÜLENKINDER, Kirsten Mainzer and Thomas Schnahs, were delighted by the appreciation shown for their work: “As a non-profit establishment, we depend upon external support in order to be able to react to the constantly changing needs of families with seriously ill children. This generous donation by ATP will now enable us to rebuild a family room, expand the external play areas, and meet the costs of additional translators and therapy. We offer our thanks on behalf of the whole team.”

Helping people to help themselves
By supporting families with children who are seriously ill or require palliative care, the ÜLENKINDER care facility in Hamburg bridges a gap by providing essential transitional care as children move between the hospital and their home. During their two to twelve week stay, parents learn from professionals how to care for their child at home. By helping these families to help themselves, this support will enable them to cope better with an everyday life that can be very stressful due to their child’s illness. The 470 m2 of the outpatient residential facility provide enough space for up to eight children and young people who require intense care.

Corporate Giving – ATP accepts its social responsibility
Each Christmas, ATP makes a donation to a socio-politically significant project or institution as a means of contributing to the public good. In this social engagement, ATP focuses on projects close to its design offices in the DACH and CEE Regions. Hence, these individual ATP offices play a special role in selecting and organizing these donations.
