Press Release  (3580 character)

In November 2020, the architect Christopher Hammerschmidt joined the top management team of ATP architects engineers, Frankfurt. He is now leading the 70 employees of the ATP Group’s design office in Frankfurt am Main alongside the construction engineer and BIM expert Harald Stieber. Hence, this is another management duo that embodies the interdisciplinary cooperation between architects and engineers that is practiced throughout ATP.

Thanks to the company’s decentralized and professional structure, ATP is ideally positioned to grow powerfully and sustainably in the Frankfurt region”, said the new managing director, explaining his choice of a career with ATP.

Christopher Hammerschmidt studied architecture at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and at the Oxford Brookes University. During ten years at Foster + Partners (2000–10) he was involved in prestigious projects in London and Paris. For example, as an associate partner he was responsible for the construction phase of the Zenith concert hall in Saint-Étienne, France. In 2010, Christopher Hammerschmidt moved to KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten, where he initially led the design and competition team, before becoming managing director and a partner. Here, he was responsible for the design and realization of a number of well-known projects including the SAP Tower in Eschborn, the PWC Headquarters in Berlin, and the European Commission’s Jean Monnet 2 building complex in Luxembourg. In 2012–13, the architect was appointed to a lectureship at the University of Kassel, where he taught the courses “The Design & Construction of High-Rise Buildings” and “Design & Urban Planning” on the master’s program. Before becoming a managing director of ATP Frankfurt, Christopher Hammerschmidt spent two years as a director and authorized signatory of Sweco GmbH.

With this extensive expertise, Christopher Hammerschmidt is excellently placed to powerfully contribute to the development of ATP Frankfurt. He sees the Rhine-Main metropolis as the heart of one of Europe’s most dynamic economic regions: “Thanks to Frankfurt’s central location in Germany we can work on projects from here to Luxembourg and the Netherlands and cover a wealth of subjects.

ATP Frankfurt is one of eleven independent design offices in the ATP Group. With 70 architects and engineers it has been one of the largest offices in the ATP network since 2007 and principally works for clients in the DACH region. The core process of ATP Frankfurt is integrated design, a key prerequisite for the use of digital design methods (BIM) and, hence, for the planning of lifecycle-oriented buildings. Thanks to its organization as an integrated design office, ATP is able to deliver all the architectural and engineering services in the design process through its own interdisciplinary teams. ATP Frankfurt, which emerged from the former office of Nowotny & Mähner, specializes in the integrated design of complex structures and the refurbishment and revitalization of office, administration, residential, retail, tourism, logistics, and research buildings.
