Planner team: ATP architects engineers/amd.sigma strategic airport development
Design start: 12/2017, Completion and ready for take-off: 09/2020
In 2017, the planner team ATP architects engineers/amd.sigma strategic airport development was commissioned to completely rework the existing concept for the construction of an additional terminal (T2) for six million passengers per year at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). The challenge was to reduce the GFA from 40,000 m² to around 23,000 m² while still being ready for the general opening deadline of October 2020. Today, T2 is “ready for take-off”.
The arrival of the building services expert establishes the principle of the management duo.
The German building services expert, Jörg Balow, is strengthening the top management team of ATP architects engineers Berlin. Together with the architect Niklas Veelken he has been leading the ATP integrated design office and its international team of 20 employees since July 2020. This means that ATP’s special integrated design culture is now also reflected by the management duo in its Berlin office.
Opening of Terminal 2 at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport
Terminal 2 at BER Airport is already “ready for take-off” and can open together with the main terminal T1 at the end of October. The additional terminal was conceived and planned in record time by the planner team ATP/amd.sigma strategic airport development. Just 38 months elapsed between the “first design sketch” and the “operational handover”. This means that the turnkey delivery of T2 took place “in time”, despite the complicated process, the late emergence of additional customer requirements, and a tight timetable. This makes it the fastest-built terminal project in German history.
