ATP architects engineers has won the DEUTSCHER TGA AWARD 2022 for the integrated design of the Viega Seminar and Sales Center. In awarding the prize, the jury praised the “outstanding planning performance and the particularly environmentally-friendly building services concept”.

Ever since it opened in 2021, the Seminar and Sales Center for the system provider Viega has been regarded as an ecological flagship project: Integrally designed with BIM by ATP Vienna and ATP sustain, the particularly resource-friendly building meets many key criteria of the European Green Deal. As a plus primary energy building it generates more energy than it consumes.

In the ATP Group, we architects and engineers share the responsibility for protecting the environment and the climate. In doing so, our building services engineers pay particular attention to needs-oriented building services – that combine high levels of user comfort with a minimal impact on the natural world. The DEUTSCHER TGA AWARD acknowledges our intense investigation of this subject”, says a delighted Michael Haugeneder, building services expert and Managing Director of ATP sustain, ATP’s research company for sustainable building, which is based in Vienna and Munich.

Best green practice
The measures that were implemented here to minimize energy demand include the special constructional approach, the combination of mechanical ventilation and high airtightness, and highly efficient heat recovery. Residual energy requirements are covered by regenerative sources such as geothermal and photovoltaic plant. Even the positioning of the building is optimized in energy terms: It benefits from high levels of solar radiation in winter, while it is protected from “overheating” in summer.

The building enables Viega to demonstrate its state-of-the-art building services to training course participants in the shape of its own “living” object. By subjecting all the processes in the building to comprehensive monitoring, the energy-efficient structure provides its own educational material.

Several awards already
Thanks to its outstanding ecological footprint and particularly environmentally-friendly energy concept, the training center has already received a number of awards: Alongside DGNB platinum certification, the new building has also been awarded the Gold Standard under the Austrian Government’s klimaaktiv initiative. In 2022, it was nominated for the Energy Globe Upper Austria and has now received the DEUTSCHER TGA AWARD.

Rigorous integral design with BIM
The Viega Seminar and Sales Center owes its high design quality to the integrated design approach that has been practiced by ATP for 45 years. This interdisciplinary, digital, and BIM-based planning method enables precise predictions of both the construction and lifecycle costs to be made at an early stage. In this case, the entire building data are also available to the client during the operational phase as a way of ensuring efficient facility management (BIM2FIM).

Every two years, the specialist journal “Moderne Gebäudetechnik” presents the DEUTSCHER TGA AWARD as a means of acknowledging outstanding design performance and technological innovations from building services specialists. The award honors excellent new buildings and refurbishment projects as well as innovative concepts that set new standards due to the fact that they are particularly efficient in terms of energy or water consumption, operate economically and sustainably at every level, or break new ground in the field of digitalization.

The DEUTSCHE TGA AWARDS were presented on 17th November 2022 during the GET Nord Fair
