Press Release  (2322 character)

This year sees the first edition of the “Interdisciplinary Student Design & Engineering Challenge” – “ISDEC2030” for short. ‘2030’, because the student competition is aligned with the UN development objectives for 2030, which include sustainable cities and communities. Hence, resource-friendly, low-energy, and recycling-oriented are the keywords upon which the conception, design, and construction of the entered projects should focus.

ISDEC2030 follows in the tradition of the well-known Concrete Student Trophy of TU Wien, which was awarded for 15 years by the Austrian Cement Industry Association (VÖZ) to the winners of an interdisciplinary student competition. With the support and the sponsorship of ATP architects and engineers, the Institute for Interdisciplinary Construction Process Management of TU Wien has invited entries to ISDEC2030 and taken the opportunity to thematically broaden and reorient the competition: “We decided to build upon the success of the Concrete Student Trophy and create a successor brand that continues to be interdisciplinary yet should also be green”, explains ATP CEO and Head of the Institute Professor Christoph M. Achammer.

All students in architectural and building faculties in Austrian universities can enter. Their task is to develop a mixed-use building on a site with a commercial mixed-use zoning in the West of Brigittenau, Vienna’s 20th District. In the overall project, urban industry should function and be profitably implemented alongside residential, working, production, and leisure facilities. The architecture and structural engineering concept should be interdisciplinary. The winning project is expected to provide a high-quality visitor experience and atmosphere, contribute to climate protection, help us to adapt to climate change, and positively influence the urban climate.

The submission date for entries to the competition is 4th October.
