Two integrally designed projects by ATP are “Winners” at this year’s BigSEE Architecture Award: the particularly sustainable RINGANA campus in St. Johann in der Haide and the Glamour Campsite in Zadar, which has also been nominated for the Grand Prix Award 2022.
RINGANA campus
The RINGANA campus in St. Johann in der Haide is not only “good looking” but also good for the environment and the climate: The new building for the Austrian manufacturer of fresh cosmetics brings together production, logistics, and office areas in a headquarters with a really “fresh” appearance. It is also one of Austria’s largest geothermal projects and, thanks to the photovoltaic panels on every roof, a “flagship project” in the field of energy efficiency. Furthermore, generous external areas including an orchard and a bathing pond improve the microclimate of the site.
The centerpiece of the new building is the high-tech fresh production facility, which has a daily capacity of up to 30,000 kg and also includes the quality management and research and development areas. The frame and vertical slat structure of the façade provides solar protection while also signaling RINGANA’s message of freshness.
Premium Camping Zadar
The fact that camping can also have a touch of glamour is demonstrated by the five-star luxury campsite in Zadar, which ATP Zagreb has upgraded and made extremely attractive on behalf of the Austrian tourism company Falkensteiner. The complex remodeling, which included the refurbishment of the run-down sanitary facilities and the construction of a new, high-quality restaurant and wellness building with an extensive range of leisure options, has transformed the camp into one of the big players on the Croatian holiday market.
The design is dominated by striking, “fragmented” areas of roof, which cantilever far beyond the spaces below them and incorporate the nature into the architecture. Given their sculptural forms, which can be seen from far away, the buildings act as easily recognizable landmarks in the continuously changing topography of the camp.
Zum Award
The BigSEE Awards (SEE = South East Europe) have been presented since 2018 by Zavod Big, an NGO based in Ljubljana in Slovenia, which organizes a series of cultural events designed to further its goal of promoting the creative economies of South East Europe. The BigSEE Awards honor design solutions in the areas of architecture, interior design, product design, wood, tourism, and fashion.
