The German Design Council has honored the particularly sustainable and energy-efficient building with the ICONIC AWARD in the category “Innovative Architecture”. Earlier this year, the campus received the BigSEE Interior Award.
RINGANA campus – the green icon
With its modern administration, high-tech production, and logistics areas, the RINGANA campus convinces visitors with its bright and friendly fresh atmosphere. The centerpiece of the campus is the state-of-the-art fresh production facility, which has a daily capacity of up to 30,000 kg, and also includes the quality management and R&D areas. A “floating” visitor platform with continuous 4m-high glazing offers guests an overview of the production process. The transparent façade, with its white framed and vertically slatted structure, also signals RINGANA’s “principle of freshness” to the outside world.
“Ecological responsibility coupled with elegant design – the RINGANA Campus demonstrates how beautiful sustainability can be. We are delighted that our efforts have been acknowledged by this award,” says ATP’s Lead Project Manager Thomas Wirth.
Sustainability as a success factor
ATP Vienna worked together with ATP sustain in an integrated design process with BIM in order to develop the ecologically and economically sustainable building with a climate-friendly energy concept: 160 deep piles activate the earth as a means of both cooling and heating and transform the campus into one of Austria’s largest geothermal projects. PV panels on every roof cover half of the building’s energy needs while 9,500 m2 of green roofs retain rainwater and lower cooling demand. In addition to this, generous external areas with orchards and a bathing pond further improve the microclimate of the complex.
The German Design Council presents its ICONIC AWARDS as a means of honoring exceptional international achievements in the fields of architecture, interior design, product design, and brand communication. They evaluate factors including the overall concept, design quality, sustainability, energy efficiency, and functionality of submissions. ATP architects engineers was first honored back in 2013, the founding year of the award, for G3 Shopping Resort in Gerasdorf. Further ATP designs to receive “icons” include the Educational Center in Holzgau in 2018, the HOFER ALPHA Retail Network in Eberstalzell in 2019, the IWC Manufacturing Center in Schaffhausen in 2020, and the Shopping and District Center ALEJA in Ljubljana in 2021.
The ICONIC AWARDS 2022 was awarded on 5th October during Expo Real in Munich.
