The hospital building experts of ATP architects engineers, Nuremberg have designed a new centerpiece for Rostock University Medical Center, which is represented by the project clients, the Staatliche Bau- und Liegenschaftsamt Rostock. The building is functionally integrated into the existing complex in such a way that the fastest possible patient care is guaranteed.
The University Emergency Center (previously the Central Medical Function Facility (ZMF)) is home to everything required by a modern, international-quality university medical center: from the central emergency facility with its rooftop heliport, via modern functional diagnostics areas with CRT and MRT scanners, to state-of-the-art laboratories and nursing stations. As part of its design for these efficient and economic structures, the ATP team was able to significantly improve the working conditions of the medical staff and the treatment and care conditions of the patients.
The center extends beyond the building line, establishing a strong presence between the listed buildings that contain the Surgical Department to the north and the Clinic for Internal Medicine to the south. As a relatively low-rise volume it respects its existing neighbors in terms of separation and height, thus preserving the overall effect of the ensemble. To the east, where the patients’ park dominates the heart of the campus, the new building rises to four stories.
ATP architects engineers have been working on the development of Rostock University Medical Center since winning an international architecture competition in 1996.
